Mō te tūnga - About the Role
The Kōwhai Programme trains volunteers known as Kōwhai Companions to provide person centred emotional tautoko / support and manaaki/practical assistance to at risk patients in hospital. The programme has been running as a pilot at Burwood Hospital since January 2022 and due to its success, it will now be a permanent service. We are seeking an enthusiastic unregulated health professional, for example an experienced hospital aid or allied health assistant to oversee the daily coordination of Kōwhai Companions at Burwood Hospital.
Hours for the role are Monday to Friday with flexibly and the ability to support new Kōwhai Companions at times who may be onsite until 6pm.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Support in the role
You will be professionally supported in the role by the Nursing Director and Allied Health Consultant for Older Persons Health. Nursing, allied health and education staff will provide support with education and orientation of Kōwhai Companions and help support the Kōwhai Companions in the clinical areas.
