Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Operations Manager falls within the Directorate of Engineering and Technical Airworthiness (DETA), and is responsible for facilitating the planning, coordination, and management of corporate programs across the DETA organisation. Additionally, the role is also responsible for the management and delivery of executive-support coordination for the DETA headquarters with all RNZAF Technical units to ensure alignment across the organisation.

A major component of this role will be managing the International Commitments Programme (ICP), which will have you coordinating bid submissions, making arrangements for students to undertake training courses/job placements, and providing specialist advice as a SME.

A typical day in this role might include:

  • Coordinating Engineering and Technical Airworthiness input for the RNZAF Chief Engineer.  
  • Developing bids for training and professional development in consultation with the Deputy Chief Engineer and the Engineering Training and Support Manager. 
  • Preparing monthly Cost Centre Manager highlighting actual and potential spending variances, potential financial risks and recommended mitigation actions.

This role is based in Wellington CBD. Once you are established in the role there are flexible working arrangements available, including work from home options (up to two days a week).

As the ideal candidate, you will be a consummate professional capable of working autonomously, driving your own work, and engaging with numerous stakeholders. Planning and execution is key in this role!

Additionally, you will also possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in a large complex organisation ideally alongside a tertiary degree.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritise tasks to meet timeframes and effectively manage changing priorities within resource constraints.
  • Proficiency in across the MS Office suite.

Due to the nature of this role, occasional (quarterly) domestic travel will be required.

For this reason, a full class 1 Driver's Licence is desirable.

Higher Level Security Clearance

  • You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
  • At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last ten (10) years.
  • You must have a ten (10) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
