Te āhuatunga a Te Kooti Whenua Māori/About the Māori Land Court
We are a court of record. Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 (our Act) recognises the significance of Māori land as a taonga tuku iho of special significance to the Māori people and the Court is the guardian of the whakapapa of the land, for the people.
Our role is to provide a court service to support landowners through their whenua journey. As a team member, you will promote the retention of Māori land with its correct ownership and assist with the effective use, management and development of that land.
Te Haeata/The Opportunity
We currently have a 2x permanent, full-time positions available at the Tākitimu Māori Land Court, based in Hastings.
Pae Tukutuku are responsible for processing Māori Land Court applications from end to end (from giving pre-application advice through to completion). A key function of the role is to consult and liaise with parties / counsel / judiciary to determine case characteristics and develop proposals to progress cases. You will complete research and analyse evidence in respect to applications, and prepare draft submissions and reports to assist in the efficient progression of the application. You will ensure effective service delivery through ongoing monitoring of applications (including technical accuracy and timeliness) and take remedial action as appropriate and support the Judiciary through the provision of up-to-date information on the status of cases. You will seek directions of the Court to determine and develop recommendations to progress the case and prior to hearings you will ensure that case / applications files are in order and meet national standards and format.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The remuneration band for this role is $58,729 to $80,794 – while the appointing salary will be based on skills and experience, we are willing to pay higher in the band to attract strong candidates into this role.
