Our Vision: Preventing Harm. Saving Lives. Securing our Future

We play a key role in the guardianship of New Zealand waterways. We're bringing together our aroha, work and skills to achieve our outcomes of sustainable supply chains and sectors, safe people and operations, secure ports and ships, and clean seas and waterways.

Our values are about who we are as individuals and the behaviours we expect from each other at Maritime NZ.

Care | Kia Tika - We care for each other and do the right thing

Connect | Kotahitanga - We unite in a common purpose

Courage | Kia Māia - We are brave, capable and confident

Mō tō mātou Rōpū | About the team

The Harm Prevention & Engagement team has the responsibility for two closely related functions: overseeing and supporting the building of MNZ's harm prevention capability and specific sub-sector strategic programmes, and coordinating and facilitating engagement with the sector and other stakeholders.

The Engagement team is focused on coordinating, facilitating and supporting all parts of the organisation to be excellent, empathic engagers, both internally and externally. This includes making connections on behalf of the organisation and supporting these to be taken forward by people elsewhere in the business. Critically, it means we are coordinated in our approaches to engagement across all parts of the business, and that we have appropriate tools and frameworks in place to support those engagements.

The work the team does involves supporting our people to develop top notch communication and engagement skills, and ensuring the key positions and parts of the organisation are supported to develop and implement engagement plans. It includes designing coordinated and effective engagement plans and activity as part of harm prevention strategies, managing key strategic relationships and at times managing significant engagement events.
