Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We are looking for an experienced geospatial professional to join the GIS as a Service squad as a Senior Geospatial Specialist.  The GIS as a Service Squad is responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining geospatial tools and applications for LINZ internal business groups and Partner Agencies

You will have demonstrated experience with a range of Geospatial applications.  The role involves technical engagement and support for customers, day to day management of existing applications, linking business users and technical specialist as well as supporting both junior and senior members of the squad.

The ideal candidate with be able to bring strong technical skills, coupled with demonstrated experience engaging with users.  They will have an ability to work independently and without supervision as well as the ability to lead others.  A breadth of experience would be advantageous as the role will require replacing an existing application with an alternative solution(s).  Therefore, an ability to interpret user needs and marry this to options analysis will be crucial to your success in this role.

Key Capability

  • Demonstrated ability to provide geospatial system expertise and support to internal and external users.
  • Ability to provide a link between, business users and technical specialists.
  • Experience helping users develop geospatial requirements.
  • Leading small project teams and guiding the work of Junior staff,
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex spatial ideas and information with diverse audiences.
  • A strong understanding of GIS theory
  • Evaluating, investigating and developing new ideas to promote geospatial concepts.
  • Working to improve applications by adding geospatial capabilities where required by the business.
  • Assisting in administering LINZ's geospatial databases to support business needs.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Geospatial qualification and/or 10 years' experience in Geospatial or related work
  • An understanding of software development lifecycles
  • Experience using complex national geospatial databases.
  • Experience in SQL, QGIS, ESRI, FME and IntraMaps.
  • Experience in supporting IT systems; software installs and testing.

 

The expected appointing range (band 19) for this role is: $102,000 - $120,000 dependant on experience. This role will be based in one of our three locations: Wellington, Christchurch or Hamilton.
