Manawhenua of our region have called the Kāpiti Coast home since the early 1800s. Their deep connections to the rohe and sense of belonging spans multiple generations. Iwi are a cornerstone to the region. The Kāpiti Coast District Council is committed to fostering their relationship with Iwi in the spirit of partnership and by honouring Te Tiriti. 

The mahi: 

You’ll help nurture, grow and evolve partnerships with Iwi Māori on the Kāpiti Coast and provide strategic and technical advice and practical support to plan and create opportunities for Iwi that shape and influence the work of Council. You’ll also connect Council activity managers and Iwi members and support them to establish strong and effective relationships reflecting tāngata whenua perspectives and aspirations. 

You’ll have: 

• An in depth understanding of Iwi Māori aspirations, tino rangatiratanga and kawa relevant to the tāngata whenua on the Kāpiti Coast 
• Understanding and demonstrated ability to recognise the role of the Treaty of Waitangi and its application in contemporary Aotearoa 

• Excellent Māori and English communication skills  
• Experience providing sound advice to leadership teams 
• Comprehensive knowledge of the local government environment, including the regulatory environment as it relates to Māori 
• Experience of effectively managing projects 
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and commitment to customers 

• Proven ability to gain and maintain professional credibility, confidence and respect among a wide range of stakeholders 
• Effective time management and collaboration skills and ability to work effectively as a team member
