  • Organisational start-up.
  • Contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Wellington based.

Recovery Trust has, for the past 30 years, been involved in end-of-use refrigerant gas disposal and, over the next 10 years, aims to eliminate the environmental harm from synthetic refrigerants in New Zealand. Recovery Trust intends to become a regulated Product Stewardship Organisation (PSO), accredited under the Waste Minimisation Act.
Synthetic refrigerants are long lived greenhouse gases and are estimated to contribute around 2.5% of our greenhouse gas emissions. The Trust has plans already in place to develop and build New Zealand’s first facility to destroy these gases.
The PSO establishment Chief Executive will help the Trust develop the new organisation framework and strategic intent, identify and recruit the team, locate Wellington-based premises, and engage widely with Ministers, Government agencies and key sector stakeholders. The CE will develop a suite of activities to ensure the PSO follows best practice and is successful in meeting its goals.
To be considered for this start-up opportunity, you must be an experienced senior leader who has experience developing a business unit or organisation from scratch. You will be an effective people leader, be strategic in your thinking and have experience or a strong appreciation of environmental issues and the impact of refrigerants on climate change. You must be well-connected in Wellington with Government and have experience working with Ministers.
The position may suit a person who is seeking part-time hours in the initial set-up stages of the PSO. It is a rare opportunity, not only to set up a new organisation but also to contribute to the reduction of emissions for our country.
Entry to New Zealand from all countries remains strictly controlled to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. You may only apply for this role if you have the right to work in New Zealand. For information about New Zealand work or residence visas, please visit
