Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
Fracture Liaison services (FLS) are designed to reduce the incidence of future injury by offering appropriate assessment, education and interventions to people over the age of 50 years who experience low impact fragility fractures. Interventions are tailored to individuals and may include medications as well as information about osteoporosis and lifestyle measures that can assist bone health and reduce risk of future fractures.
We have implemented a Fracture Liaison Service in the Hutt Valley/Te Awakairangi and are now extending the team across the Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti areas.
We are a small, friendly team consisting of a Pharmacist, another part-time Administrator, two Senior Nurses in Coordinator roles and a part-time Medical Clinical Leader. We interface with Emergency Departments, Orthopaedics, Geriatrics, Endocrinology, Rheumatology and Radiology within the hospital, also taking fragility fracture referrals from Primary Health. The administrator in this position will receive solid training and support from existing staff whilst the team as a whole can access day to day collegiality from the large District-wide Community Older Adults service.
