Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

You will be working within the newly established Intelligence Directorate. The Intelligence Directorate are regionally networked and collaborative across Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora. We utilise data to produce intelligence that supports decision making.

We are excited to have a position available in our Intelligence Directorate as an Analyst in the Improvement & Performance Team.

This permanent, full-time role will see you provide technical advice; data collation, analysis and interpretation; research activities, and input into reports, requests and briefings.

Mōu | About you

You are someone with 1-3 years of experience using qualitative or quantitative research/evaluation techniques, practices and principles. You're experienced in applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options, provide advice and identify technical requirements.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience. A background in public health, psychology, statistics, data management, data analytics or similar is desirable
  • Experience in using a variety of relevant data tooling & languages such as SQL, R or Python, DBT, Alation, and PowerBI etc with a deep expertise in one analysis tool
  • Analytical and technical skills, including the ability to collect, summarise and visualise data in a way that is meaningful
  • An understanding of and the ability to select, adapt and use frameworks, principles, tools and methods and apply them appropriately to given issues
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies is desirable
