Mō te tūnga | About the role

6 Squadron maintains and operates the Navy's SeaSprite helicopters out of RNZAF Base Auckland and while deployed around the world on board RNZN Aviation capable ships. 6 Squadron is a unique inclusive family comprised of Navy, Airforce, and civilian staff who all work closely together to safely provide a naval aviation capability for the New Zealand Government and people.  

This is a full time role based solely at RNZAF Base Whenuapai working in the 6 Squadron Hangar, carrying out both Base and Line maintenance. Your will primarily be conducting calendar based scheduled maintenance, working within in a small team of both military and civilian staff. 

There is substantial training and learning opportunities to take up if you are interested in continually learning new skills, including the opportunity to advance into a supervision role.

There are opportunities to travel within NZ with 6 Squadron on deployments or to attend professional development courses on other Defence bases and camps.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role, we are seeking candidates who have:

  • Sound knowledge of the NZDF Airworthiness Framework, or a similar Part 145 Maintenance origination.
  • Working knowledge of SAP Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is desirable.
  • Interpersonal, organisation and time management skills.
  • Min 1 year experience in Avionics Engineering.

Qualifications required; can be either:

  • EASA Part 66 cat B2 licence, or recognised equivalent.
  • NZDF or equivalent military Avionics Advance Trade Training course.
  • NZQA Level 4 National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering Avionics.

You need to have a Class 1 Full Driver's Licence.

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
