Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Our Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) team is currently looking for skilled and passionate mental health Social Workers. The Social Work role is vital to support the mental health of our children and young people across Taranaki as you will be supporting them through their journey along with their whanau. The role will work within the community and within our integrated model of care. There will be opportunities and support for professional development and ongoing role development. The team works with children and young people 0-18 years of age and has close links with other child health staff including Paediatricians, inpatient facility staff and Non-Government Organisations.

  • Multiple permanent full-time roles based in New Plymouth with travel to South Taranaki required.
  • Registered Social Worker with Current Practicing Certificate.
  • Passion for Mental Health & Addictions, exceptional interpersonal & communication skills.
  • 2 years’ experience within specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health or other specialist Child & Youth agency preferred.


What you’ll do with your time

  • Undertake all components of key working, including comprehensive assessment, risk assessment and management, wellness and treatment planning
  • Provides client-centred care, utilising evidence-based treatment strategies including, where appropriate, talking therapies
  • Coordinate care at the right time with input from external providers
  • Assisting across the wider team where needed.

  • Excellent assessment, communication & relationship building skills
  • Flexibility to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Understanding and application of the principles of the treaty of Waitangi, with a culturally safe and appropriate approach to practice
