Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We are looking for a highly motivated, progressive, and innovative nurse to join our team at Ward 26A as a Charge Nurse in a permanent, fulltime capacity. This role is accountable for professional and practice standards and ensuring nursing staff safely and effectively meet the clinical nursing care needs of patients and their family/whanau. The Charge Nurse drives ward performance and career development of the team through best practice and clinical leadership.

The paediatric Neuroservices at Starship encompass Neurosurgery, Neurology, Endocrine, Metabolic, Paed rehab and Developmental Paediatrics. Ward 26A includes a four-bed intensive observation area.

Paediatric Neuroservices predominantly cares for infants, children and young people who have disorders of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. It involves looking after mokopuna who are acutely unwell and require inpatient treatment (often in an intensive care setting), and longer-term management of patients with chronic, rare or evolving disorders. We also provide neurosurgical treatment to those requiring elective and acute brain surgery.

 In this role, you will:

  • Enable the values of Te Toka Tumai
  • Provide outstanding clinical and professional leadership for staff on the ward ensuring that excellence in nursing care delivery is maintained
  • Provide expert clinical support and oversight to nursing staff, enhancing the existing skills of staff on the ward
  • Be responsible for the operational management and performance of the ward
  • Ensure the fiscal performance of the ward
  • Lead effective positive teamwork and work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team

As the ideal person for this role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience in an acute paediatric nursing setting with at least Level 4 practice
  • Recently completed or be studying toward a relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Experience in Neuroservices
  • Passion for whānau centred care
  • Innovative and creative approaches
  • The ability to manage and lead teams
  • Strong communication skills
