Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting Costal Ecology Technical Officer on a fixed-term, part-time contract. This role will be responsible for day-to-day operations at the Wellington Costal Ecology Lab (WUCEL) as well as primarily supporting scientific diving programmes for teaching and research. This position will also assist with boat-based activities, collections and maintenance of biological specimens, and management of laboratory facilities and WUCEL's seawater system.
The appointment for this position will be effective from 08 January 2024 to 31 July 2024.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
You will be a motivated, technically competent individual who works well in a team and on your own. This position works with students, academics, and professional staff. You will have a positive can-do attitude and can pivot to the variety of needs of the Costal Ecology Lab as required.
Key requirements:
- Minimum of BSc. in biological sciences or related field
- Holder of a current New Zealand Certificate of Competence for occupational SCUBA diving
- Medical clearance to undertake occupational diving
- Enthusiasm, professionalism, and commitment to educational objectives
- Proven experience supporting the operation of research and/or teaching laboratories in an education environment
- Field work and outdoor experience
- Excellent organisational skills including proven history of organising fieldwork logistics
- Computing skills, including competence in Microsoft Office and familiarity with database management systems
- Proven leadership capability in a variety of field work situations
- Proven ability and experience working as part of a larger technical team
- Full NZ driver's licence
