The Team

Older Person Mental Health Service provides mental health assessment and treatment for people 65 years and older in the Canterbury region. It is part of the Older Persons Health and Rehabilitation Group of the Canterbury DHB.  

Older Persons Mental Health have a close working relationship with Older Persons Health in-patient and community geriatric services as well as Adult Specialist Mental Health, primary care medical and other community services providing treatment and support for older people .

Currently a team of ten psychiatrists lead interdisciplinary teams providing: Inpatient care in two purpose-built wards at Burwood Hospital (opened June 2016) a mental health day hospital, a memory assessment clinic, a large mental health community team and an old age psychiatry consult liaison team.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are seeking someone that is looking for a part-time, permanent position (by negotiation up to 1.0FTE). You will be expected to work collaboratively with and provide clinical leadership in an Inter-Disciplinary team setting.

Applicants should hold a current (or be eligible for) a Medical Council of New Zealand Practising Certificate with vocational registration as a Psychiatrist and hold a specialist qualification in Psychiatry recognized by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. The successful applicants should have a sub-specialty qualification in Psychiatry of Old Age or show extensive experience in this area of practice.
