The Mental Health and Addiction Services at Northland DHB are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Whangarei team. This is a permanent, part-time position (0.5 FTE).

This role is to provide assessment and management of youth presenting via the youth justice system. This is a key role that will provide clinical leadership to Te Roopu Kimiora (TRK) as well as be an effective member of multidisciplinary teams in our Mental Health and Addiction Services and wider specialist services. Previous experience in inpatient and community settings working with children and youth, including interacting with justice systems would be ideal.

This is a great development opportunity to join a close-knit team but still be a part of a broader group of psychiatrists contributing to care across the age bands and in sub-specialty services including; maternal mental health, early psychosis service and addictions. You will participate on the after-hours on-call roster and be involved with supervision and training of registrars whilst providing leadership to the wider clinical team.

The Child & Adolescent team, Te Roopu Kimiora (TRK) provide a secondary care mental health service to rangatahi / young people aged 0 - 18 from the Whangārei Hospital campus.

To be considered you must have or be eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in either a vocational or locum tenens - special purpose Psychiatry scope of practice. FRANZCP and/ or post graduate qualifications specific to Child and Youth psychiatry are desirable, however happy to hear from those near completion of their studies etc. If you are currently overseas / not yet registered, we can assist you with the application process to obtain MCNZ registration. Northland District Health Board is also an Approved Accredited Employer by New Zealand Immigration.
