  • Permanent Full-Time role leading the Corporate Services Group
  • Senior Leadership Team role reporting to the Chief Executive
  • Wellington CBD based (Queens Wharf)
  • Previous senior leadership experience in the government environment required


Senior leadership role of the Ministry, delivering the Group's strategy and functions and empowering people leadership.

Te ManatūWaka, Ministry of Transport, is the system leader for the transport sectorwhether it's on land, at sea, in the air, or connecting Aotearoa to the world. We are the government's principal adviser on transport policy, regulation and investment and play a crucial role in ensuring the transport system is working to improve the prosperity for New Zealanders.

The Ministry's key responsibilities include providing policy advice to Government including the development of investment and regulatory settings, legislative advice and Crown agency governance, accountability, and performance.

As a Deputy Chief Executive, reporting to the Chief Executive and a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will work closely with your SLT colleagues in an environment of constructive challenge and collective accountability.

Key responsibilities include.

  • Help deliver the Ministry's purpose and enhance collective leadership
  • Lead and inspire a performance driven culture across the Ministry including through periods of ambiguity or change
  • Ensure effective leadership of direct reports including performance conversations, mentoring and ongoing development.

The Corporate Services Group provides administrative, technical, and advisory support to the wider Ministry.

You will have accountability for six teams comprising of: Human Resources, Finance, Communications & Engagement, Business Enablement & Support, Legal & Procurement and New Zealand Search & Rescue.

You will be accountable for.

  • Developing an operating model and strategy for the group
  • Overseeing the implementation of the review of the New Zealand Search and Rescue and Recreational Safety systems
  • Establishing the Finance operating model and administering the $10 billion plus Vote in accordance with the Public Finance Act 2004.

  • Success and results in a senior leadership role in a complex organisation or environment with an authentic, engaged style of people leadership to foster an environment for results-focused behaviours and delivery of outcomes
  • Previous senior management experience from within the public sector and a sound understanding of the machinery of government
  • An understanding of corporate services models and relevant legislation
  • Highly developed leadership skills with proven experience in leading and managing high performing teams across a range of functional areas
  • Ability to manage internal and external relationships and communicate complex ideas
  • The understanding of Te Reo, Tikanga and Matauranga Māori
  • A Confidential security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain this level of clearance required.
