Senior leadership role of the Ministry, delivering the Group's strategy and functions and empowering people leadership.

TeManatūWaka, Ministry of Transport, is the system leader for the transportsectorwhether it's on land, at sea, in the air, or connecting Aotearoa tothe world. We are the government's principal adviser on transport policy,regulation and investment and play a crucial role in ensuring the transportsystem is working to improve the prosperity for New Zealanders.

TheMinistry's key responsibilities include providing policy advice to Governmentincluding the development of investment and regulatory settings, legislativeadvice and Crown agency governance, accountability, and performance.

As a Deputy Chief Executive, reportingto the Chief Executive and a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you willwork closely with your SLT colleagues in an environment of constructivechallenge and collective accountability.

Key responsibilitiesinclude.

  • Helpdeliver the Ministry's purpose and enhance collective leadership
  • Lead andinspire a performance driven culture across the Ministry including throughperiods of ambiguity or change
  • Ensureeffective leadership of direct reports including performance conversations,mentoring and ongoing development.

The Corporate Services Groupprovides administrative, technical, and advisory support to the wider Ministry.

You willhave accountability for six teams comprising of: Human Resources, Finance,Communications & Engagement, Business Enablement & Support, Legal &Procurement and New Zealand Search & Rescue.

You willbe accountable for.

  • Developingan operating model and strategy for the group
  • Overseeingthe implementation of the review of the New Zealand Search and Rescue andRecreational Safety systems
  • Establishingthe Finance operating model and administering the $10 billion plus Vote inaccordance with the Public Finance Act 2004.

  • Successand results in a senior leadership role in a complex organisation orenvironment with an authentic, engaged style of people leadership to foster anenvironment for results-focused behaviours and delivery of outcomes
  • Previoussenior management experience from within the public sector and a soundunderstanding of the machinery of government
  • An understandingof corporate services models and relevant legislation
  • Highly developedleadership skills with proven experience in leading and managing highperforming teams across a range of functional areas
  • Abilityto manage internal and external relationships and communicate complex ideas
  • AConfidential security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain thislevel of clearance required.
