Salary:    EN Scale Step 1-5 depending on experience

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The purpose of the Enrolled Nurse (EN) role is to provide and / or assist with, evidence-based nursing care in a team-based model under direction and delegation principles, working collaboratively to ensure quality patient care is received. 

The EN works within the scope of an EN as prescribed by the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ), that is in a team with a registered nurse (RN) or nurse practitioner (NP) who is responsible for directing and delegating nursing interventions and who maintains overall responsibility for the plan of care. 

Enrolled nurses are accountable for their nursing actions and practice competently in accordance with legislation, to their level of knowledge and experience.

The primary purpose of the role is to support the seamless and efficient running of the Diabetes and Endocrine clinics, contributing to a warm, safe, and welcoming environment.  Responsibilities will include taking and recording patient observations, conducting point of care testing, accessing clinical data from patient technology devices, and ensuring the clinical environment is prepared, stocked and ready to welcome patients.  Additionally, the role involves some data management and assisting patients in scheduling follow up appointments.  It is anticipated that the role - s responsibilities will develop in time within the scope of an Enrolled Nurse.

It is the nurse - s responsibility to ensure that they attend the generic orientation, yearly learning requirements and maintain area-specific competency requirements. They will access policy and procedures through District Docs and work within the CCHV Nursing and Midwifery standards and criteria of care and professional practice. 

The EN working for C, C & HV will have a desire to develop in an area of nursing; will have the ability to work using a team nursing approach, demonstrate values consistent with those of CCHV and will be committed to the principals of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

The EN working hours will generally be Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm and may work across the district as required due to patient safety and workforce necessities.

The vision for the Endocrine & Diabetes Service is to be a centre of excellence empowering health professionals, patients and their families to maximise their ability to self-manage their endocrine and diabetes related health.

The Endocrine, Diabetes & Research Centre (EDRC) at Te Whatu Ora is a specialist regional Hospital and Health Service that has four inter-related components:

1. Endocrine specialist medical and nursing clinics

2. Diabetes specialist medical clinics

3. Specialist diabetes community management and support nursing service

4. Diabetes Research Centre

The specialist services target prevention, assessment and complex clinical management of high-risk populations. Each of these services has a strong out-reach dimension with clinics based on other facilities including Kenepuru Hospital & Kapiti Health Centre (outreach). These services all work with primary providers in the district by offering consultation and support to manage complex cases that are referred to them. Diabetes management and support incorporates a community dietetic service, a secondary podiatry service, and recently a diabetes psychology service

Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations: 

• Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) as an Enrolled Nurse 
• A current Practicing Certificate.
