Background
The EPA was established in 2011 to be the single national-level environmental regulator. It is a stand-alone Crown Agent responsible for national-level consenting and regulatory functions under a number of statutes. To find out more about the EPA, please visit https://www.epa.govt.nz/about-us/

Functions of the EPA Board
The EPA Board is the governing body of the EPA, being directly accountable to the Minister for the Environment as well as to Parliament for the performance of the EPA. The Board members work collectively to oversee the activities of the executive leadership team and staff, who carry out the day-to-day operations. Board members may also participate in direct decision-making for environmental consents received by the EPA, as part of a committee made up of other experts.
Remuneration
Board members are paid $26,500 per annum in accordance with the Cabinet Fees Framework.
Terms of appointment
Board members are appointed by the responsible Minister for terms of up to three years.
