About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi

This is a Wellington based role and sits within a dedicated team of Advisors, and reports to the Director of Strategic Crisis Management. The Executive Assistant role is designed to provide high-quality administrative support to the Strategic Crisis Management Unit to enable the team to perform their key functions related to readiness and response.

The work will involve a variety of responsibilities that will see you leaning in to supporting the planning, preparation and delivery of meetings, travel, financial processes, updating information, and calendar management. Work will often involve you in end-to-end tasks, i.e., preparation and planning, acting as point of contact, greeting and escorting visitors, to managing paperwork and filing etc.  The role operates in a unique environment and will provide interesting opportunities for someone who enjoys a workplace with variety, pace, problem resolution, and interactions with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

 

To provide context to the environment, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet's (DPMC) has a unique role as the trusted advisor, leader and steward of our system of executive government. Within DPMC, the Risk and Systems Governance Group (RSGG) provides leadership to DPMC's risk and system governance accountabilities.

One of the functions of RSGG is the Strategic Crisis Management Unit (SCMU) which leads, coordinates and supports the all-of-government Officials' Committee for Domestic and External Security Coordination (ODESC) system of strategic crisis management to deliver a secure and resilient New Zealand.  The ODESC system is used for all hazards, threats and risks, and is designed to support central government in performing two roles with respect to emerging strategic risks and in the response to crisis events:

  • To maintain confidence in normal conditions to ensure that policy settings, state institutions, the regulatory environment and the allocation of resources promote confidence in New Zealand society and sustain growth; and
  • To provide leadership in crisis conditions to ensure that potential, imminent or actual disturbances to the usual functioning of society and the economy; or interruptions to critical supplies or services cause minimum impact and that a return to usual societal functions is achieved swiftly.

A key function for SCMU is providing stewardship for the ODESC system in the form of thought leadership, relationship management, coordination and secretariat support.  SCMU also engages in a range of readiness activities with government agencies to assist in agencies' understanding of their roles and responsibilities within the ODESC system.

Security Requirements | Ngā Whakaritenga Haumarutanga

Normally you must be a New Zealand citizen or hold a Resident class visa. Alternatively, you must have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia with a 15 year checkable background. To find out more check your eligibility for a TOP SECRET SPECIAL (TSS) security clearance.
