Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

The Ministry acts in the world to build a safer, more prosperous and more sustainable future for New Zealanders.

Kia hangai ake e te Manatu he ao-haumaru, ao-tonui, ao-pumau, ki te oranga tonutanga mo Aotearoa whanui.

  • Mix of accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit card administration
  • Support our people here in NZ and at posts and embassies all over the world
  • 12 months Fixed term Contract – Wellington based

Bring your ideas on how we can improve our processes and the way we work!

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We are a small but committed and supportive team, valued for the work we do because we are known for building strong relationships and always questioning how we can do things better -  for us and for the people we support, both in Aoteroa and across 62 locations around the world.

As a member of our lovely team you’ll notice that the work we do is a bit different from a typical accounts payable or accounts receivable position – because not only will you deliver accounts payable and accounts receivable systems and processes,  you’ll also be responsible for credit card administration and administering our expense management system.

In addition, you will assist banking officers to process foreign currency invoices and funding requests into our finance system.

We use multiple systems that you probably haven’t come across before – but we have a ‘buddy system’ and can provide lots of on the job training  - so as long as you already have some finance experience e.g. in an accounts payable, accounts receivable or ‘finance allrounder’ role we will be able to get you up to speed before you know it.

Our team agrees however that the most important aspect of this role is making sure we have a customer focused approach in everything we do – so we hope that you are someone that agrees with this too and that you are someone who wants to make a difference by bringing your ideas on how we can do things better for our customers.

For more detail you can view a copy of the position description here.

The full salary range for this role is $63,542 and $81,193 total remuneration, inclusive of our 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution. We expect to appoint around the midpoint $70,602 – give or take depending on your level of experience.

Mā‎ wai te mahi nei? – Who are we looking for?

You don’t need experience in Government or in large corportate organisations to be considered for this role.   We will help you figure out how things work around here and we will show you how to use our systems but you will need to be organised, details focussed and happy to turn your hand to anything.

In particular we will be looking for you to demonstrate the following on your application:

  • Experience in either accounts payable, accounts receivable or credit card administration
  • Your ability to work effectively with colleagues, but also to think independently and work autonomously when required
  • Your ability to quickly learn new systems
  • A strong focus on detail particularly related to data and information management
  • An interest in continuous improvement

Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work.

If you are just starting on this journey that’s OK too – as long as you have a willingness to learn and a desire to develop your cultural capability.  As a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, this is important to us and we offer training and support.
