Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position)

As a Health Care Assistant you will be part of our dedicated nursing environment with full support. Your role is to work within the team to assist nursing staff in care delivery, one-to-one patient watches and other tasks as directed. Some of the tasks include:

  • Direct supervision by registered nurse /enrolled nurse
  • Patient hygiene cares
  • Assist with feeding patients.
  • Communicating with patients, staff and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Will be required to assist in other areas within the hospital.
  • General tidying of the ward

You will have a mature outlook, the ability to get on with a wide variety of people and excellent communication skills. They will also have the ability to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty, reliability and use appropriate initiative. 

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.

Essential

  • Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
  • Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
  • NZQA Level 3 qualification (or equivalent

Desirable

  • Home carer certificate

Mandatory

  • NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand. (If not previously attained, to be completed within 2 years of commencement or to be commenced within 1 year of employment.)

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience in an acute hospital environment (desirable)
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications ie: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and  Outlook
  • Keeps up to date with available information technology relevant to position
  • Understands and complies with Health NZ (Nelson Marlborough) Information Technology policies
