Mō te tūnga | About the role

As a Security Learning Instructor for Defence Security, you will be part of a small, dynamic team who design, develop and deliver security based learning offerings in respect to protective security across the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).

The key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering face to face and virtual security training across the country.
  • Engaging with all personnel across the Defence Force.
  • Coordinating with the NZ Defence College to manage training administration.
  • Implementing learning solutions in collaboration with learning professionals and subject matter experts across the organisation.

This role is based in Wellington CBD. Flexible working arrangements around the training timetable is an option.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

You will have strong experience and knowledge in protective security within a government organisation coupled with experience in delivering training, instruction, or facilitation to a diverse range of adult learners within a classroom setting. You will be able to work autonomously, at pace, and able to engage with a wide range of different people to deliver effective security training.

You will also have:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to translate technical or complex information easily.
  • The ability to work independently, autonomously and be able to make decisions using sound judgement.
  • Adaptability to adjust content to relate to the target audience.
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently.
  • A sound working knowledge of learning theory, instructional design practices, and educational evaluation.
  • Knowledge of the Protective Security Requirements (PSR) in a large complex organisation.

Please note: This role will require domestic travel to NZDF camps and bases, therefore a full and clean Driver's License is essential.

To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with the NZ Defence Force, you need to meet certain citizenship and residency criteria. Here's what you need to know:

Higher Level Security Clearance

  • You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
  • At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last ten (10) years.
  • You must have a ten (10) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
