Role Type: Fixed-term (until August 2025), full-time

Location: Wellington

Salary Band: $117,035 - $145,000 depending on skills and experience

 

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Capital & Project Accounting team and provide strategic financial management for MPI's investment programmes.

As Investment Business Partner, you will provide business and financial information and advice to assist with strategic decision making, as well as to assist internal stakeholders to manage, monitor, and report on the financials.

You will work with a range of internal stakeholders to facilitate the development of multi-year investment plans relating to the introduction of new initiatives.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing financial leadership for the implementation business case process & working with service providers & business owners to complete the economic analysis required
  • Leading the medium & long-term financial advice and reporting for relevant business units, programmes, & governance boards
  • Evaluating & advising on proposed budget initiatives and new investment proposals
  • Assisting with managing our capital investments and ensuring timely and accurate forecasting
  • Providing proactive & relevant business and financial advice to various stakeholders
  • Working with programme and finance teams to facilitate detailed programme planning, budgeting, and reporting

 

Mōu - About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a Chartered Accountant (CAANZ or equivalent) with 5+ years post qualification experience.

You will have a strong understanding of programme planning, budgetary processes, and systems relating to programme performance, reporting, and governance.

Specifically, your experience will include:

  • Contributing to strategic decisions and formulating business decisions
  • Working in large scale >$10m programmes/projects
  • Analysis of technical issues and making business decisions with financial impact
  • Experience in working closely with delivery and commercial teams
  • Significant experience in business engagement and the provision of financial services
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and planning skills as well as being commercially savvy
  • The ability to influence others and encourage contributions from people over whom there is no management responsibility
  • Knowledge of Government Financial Management legislation, policies, and practices

The role is strongly stakeholder focused and requires someone with strong oral and written communication skills, and an ability to think innovatively about communicating information to customers.

The Capital & Project Accounting team is part of our Finance & Procurement directorate. We work with the business and programmes to provide budget and forecast support, monitor the Ministry's capital investment, assist with business case development, and provide reports to different governance committees.
