Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We are seeking applications for this exciting opportunity to make a difference in influencing current Engineering students. We are looking for a dynamic individual who will bring professional and academic experience to be part of a team dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision, as well as maintaining and developing original scholarship and research activities specifically relevant to Civil Engineering.

You will teach in the field of civil engineering whilst complementing existing interdisciplinary fields, lead the development of an appropriate research area, such as data analysis, machine learning, robotics, water resources, coastal engineering, and engineering geology. You will supervise postgraduate students and attract external funding to support your research specialty.

If you are seeking an appointment at the Senior Lecturer level, you will have a record of academic leadership that includes mentorship, guidance, encouragement, and support for other academic staff in the pursuit of their academic objectives and the development of their professional careers.

The level of appointment will depend on the successful candidate's relevant skills, knowledge, and experience, the salary will be in the range of Lecturer from $84,337 to $100,551 per year, Senior Lecturer salary range from $103,303 to $135,517 per year. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours) based on our Hillcrest campus.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD or be in the final stages of completion if applying at the Lecturer level. You will bring a passion for, and expertise in Civil Engineering ideally in water engineering, hydraulics, transportation, or construction, with a minimum of 5 years in professional practice.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an understanding of how your research could enhance professional practice and community. If seeking the Senior Lecturer appointment you will be expected to have a research and scholarship record of excellence at a national and international level, along with demonstrated excellence in teaching and successful postgraduate supervision experience in the broad discipline of human development.

The School of Engineering offers accredited BE(Hons) degree programmes in Chemical and Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials and Process Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and a Diploma in Engineering Management. The School of Engineering also offers both taught and research Masters as well as PhDs. Research and development strengths are in, construction, infrastructure and structural engineering energy, water, automation, robotics, sensing, electrical power systems, biomedical engineering and materials.
