Te āhua o Te Tūrunga - The nature of the position

Reporting to the Director Scholarships, this full-time fixed term role will lead the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships team to deliver on a scholarship partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It will involve managing the operational delivery of the Manaaki Scholarships Programme, acting as the operational bridge to governance, driving a continuous improvement agenda, and overseeing operationalisation of policy and provision of insights to inform programme investment and development. 

This is an exciting opportunity to drive operational efficiencies and cultivate a culture of continual improvement for the New Zealand government's largest investment in international scholarships.  With proven experience in leading change initiatives and enabling transformation, your exceptional relationship building skills and your ability to influence a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds will be evident and valued.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako - Essential skills/experiences for the role

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum of five years' experience in a client service or relationship management role, related to international education, student exchanges or scholarship programmes.
  • Solid understanding of the education sector and New Zealand educational institutions and the differing scholar and scholarship lifecycles.
  • Proven experience leading at business unit level, including finance responsibility, people management, risk management, reporting and programme accountability.
  • Ability to interpret and understand commercial contracts and relevant obligations.
  • Flexibility to adjust to and embrace changes in an evolving programme, while championing and leading change with team/direct reports.
  • Demonstrated operational management experience, with a solid understanding of operational delivery functions (experience running a similar international mobility programme is desirable)
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a complex and wide-ranging stakeholder environment including the ability to build trust, influence, and confidence quickly
