Manager Heritage Assets Central (Wellington) – Ref 241

Full-time for seven months from mid-June 2024

Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga is Aotearoa New Zealand's leading bicultural heritage agency. We provide recognition, protection, and support for heritage places throughout the country.  We are looking for an individual with enthusiasm and skill to manage properties, staff, and visitors in our varied heritage portfolio. This role sits within a dynamic regional team that champion heritage - making it relevant for current and future generations.

We're looking for a heritage asset manager to provide oversight for our heritage properties and properties staff in the Central Region, including such places as Old St Paul's, Old Government Buildings, and Te Pōrere redoubt/pā in the central North Island.

The asset manager is responsible for the conservation, promotion, and management of properties, in accordance with the organisation's strategy. This includes managing and developing business operations, enhancing visitor experiences to promote growth and diversity in our audience, delivering a repair and maintenance programme, and providing motivational leadership to properties staff.

We are seeking a hands-on manager and strategic thinker with experience in team leadership and both operational and project management. You'll need a strong appreciation of our heritage, history, and culture, and an understanding of working in a bicultural organisation. Excellent relationship-building skills, creativity and a high level of emotional intelligence are essential.  This role requires some travel and, although not a requirement, experience with heritage could be an advantage.

This is a rare opportunity to join a high-performing team in a stimulating environment!
