Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Come join us. We're committed to supporting economic wellbeing and prosperity for New Zealand.

Te tūranga - The role
We have a rare senior leadership role in the Prudential Policy Department, leading the team that develops some of our most important prudential policies. The Prudential Policy Department is responsible for developing the policy frameworks and settings that underpin the prudential regulation and supervision of the New Zealand financial system as it relates to banks, non-bank deposit takers (NBDTs), insurers and financial market infrastructures. This is an exciting time for the Prudential Policy Department, and the Reserve Bank, as we embark on the implementation of the new Deposit Takers Act, which will enhance the stability of the New Zealand financial system.

As well as doing important work for New Zealanders, you will be part of a supportive and inclusive leadership team, working alongside dedicated experts in economic policy.

You will be responsible for leading the team in the delivery of liquidity, macro-prudential and disclosure policies that promote and enhance financial stability.

Some of your other responsibilities will include:

  • Motivating, leading, and developing the team to perform at their best.
  • Lead senior strategic engagement over regulatory policy with industry peers, senior leaders within our organisation and the wider public sector, the Reserve Bank Board and Ministers.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of prudential requirements and regulatory change initiatives impacting the financial sector.
  • Foster a work environment that is inclusive, safe, trusted and equitable.
  • Working with the Prudential Policy Department leadership team, and wider Financial Stability Group leaders, to develop and implement a strategically aligned work programme and develop an effective workforce strategy.

Ō pūkenga - About you
As an adept leader, your emphasis on inclusivity and collaboration is evident in your proven track record developing and supporting teams, and setting them up for success. Your strategic thinking and extensive experience in government leadership further underscore your ability to navigate complex policy programmes and deliver high quality work to ambitious timeframes.

You'll also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant disciplines with related professional experience, including economics and law, finance or public policy.
  • Proven leadership experience - building, fostering, and enabling a motivated, high performing, collaborative, inclusive and diverse team culture.
  • The ability to develop a broad range of knowledge and skills across a range of specialisations relevant to the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, manage ambiguity and meet deadlines.
