We are delighted to announce a 12-month Apprenticeship position for people interested in Midwifery.  The successful candidate will work with clinicians at the hospital, supporting the teams in the work they do with their - whanāu - .  Earn while you learn and work towards your passion for a career in midwifery.

 Ko wai he kaitono tōtika? (Who is an appropriate applicant?)

No experience is required just enthusiasm and a strong desire to enter the midwifery profession.  You need to be passionate about babies and supporting women through this major life change.  You also need to be highly motivated to complete your 6-month distance learning New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation Level 4 though ARA which begins in July.  This will start you on your pathway to midwifery while earning and learning both on and off the job. It will require staying power and a determination to succeed.  The ability to work with a diverse range of people, excellent communication, a sense of humour and being a good team player are essential qualities.

 You will work 4 days per week at the hospital and will have 1 day of paid study leave per week. The course at ARA will be funded.   On the job training, clinical and tikanga Māori cultural support will be provided. Recent school leavers and those looking for a career change are encouraged to apply.

 The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.

Ngā huanga o tēnei mahi (The benefits of this position)

You will need to have 40 credits at NCEA level 2 with 10 credits in literacy and 10 credits in mathematics OR New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation level 3.  Alternatively, you may have University entrance already but wish to gain some valuable skills and experience before starting your midwifery degree.  You need to have a desire to study for a midwifery degree after you finish your entry programme.  This - earn-while-you-learn - programme is designed to be the launch to your health career in Maternity.
