Lyttelton Engineering have been an integral part of the Port of Lyttelton since 1953. They are one of Canterbury’s largest engineering companies and has proven itself to be one of the province’s leading marine and industrial / fabrication facilities. Creating for their clients a range of plants and structures including steam and hot water boilers, pressure vessels and piping systems, heat exchangers, ducting, material handling systems and lifting equipment. They pride themselves on quality engineering and expertise which has positioned themselves at the forefront of these industries.

They currently have an exciting opportunity for a talented and passionate Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team at the dockside for a full-time, permanent position. 40 hours a week (8am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday). The purpose of the role is to provide end to end delivery of engineering project solutions including concept design, 3D modelling, engineering calculations, developed and detailed design work, production of workshop fabrication drawings, workshop support and commissioning support (where applicable). Collaborate, problem solve, learn and develop your skills amongst the entire engineering team of eight, to ensure successful project deliveries.

What the role entails:

  • Developing and detail engineering designs and projects using SolidWorks 3D software.
  • Provide design support work to in-house fabrication workshop including generation of dxf files.
  • Project manage smaller engineering projects from inception through to completion and commissioning.
  • Component sourcing.
  • Releasing and controlling hard copies of manufacturing drawings to the workshop.
  • Monitoring production and seeking feedback from workshop staff during manufacture of designs.
  • Coach and mentor junior staff.
  • Collaborate with the entire engineering team while developing new designs and refining existing designs.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary level qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years mechanical design experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D software.
  • Knowledge of process heat solutions (steam and hot water boilers, combustion systems, piping) an advantage.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and to manage / prioritise workload to meet the needs of the organisation.
