NEW GRADUATE MIDWIVES, PUAWAI AROHA MATERNITY UNIT 0.8 FTE (Permanent)

  • Are you in your final year of midwifery study or recently sat your final examination or already a new graduate midwife thinking about options for consolidating your knowledge into practice?
  • Do you want to join an experienced team who will go out of their way to support you to successfully complete your Midwifery First Year of Practice programme?
  • Are you looking for a change in work place to consolidate your practice?

Well, Puawai Aroha Maternity Unit, Hauora Tairāwhiti might just be the right place for you. We have two 0.8FTE positions for new graduate midwives available for 2022.

If successful you would be working in partnership with the women of Tairāwhiti and their whānau alongside their LMC's.  We provide primary and secondary care within a collegiate and supportive environment. We have one of the highest birth rates per capita, with approximately 700 births per year in our culturally rich region.

Puawai Aroha Maternity Unit boasts a relaxed atmosphere with five birthing suites and eight ante/postnatal rooms which are well resourced to provide high quality and safe care from our friendly team.

These suites/rooms are situated together so midwives work across all areas of their scope of practice which would enable you to enhance your practice whilst completing the Midwifery First Year in Practice programme. We also run an antenatal clinic catering for the needs of pregnant women referred to us for a consultation or transfer of care from the LMC to our secondary care services.

We currently have a team of 5 obstetricians’ and a NNU which is attached to our maternity unit. We all work closely together so that we can improve our outcomes for mums and babies and have strong organisational values of

Whakarangatira (to enrich)

Awhi (to support)

Kotahitanga (togetherness)

Aroha (Compassion)

"Whāia te hauora i Roto i te Kotahitanga - A Healthier Tairāwhiti by working together".

Tairāwhiti provides a work/life balance which other regions in New Zealand envy. With beautiful beaches and landscapes a matter of minutes from work, we have a particularly outgoing team who enjoy nature and what our region has to offer. So you may come for the midwifery but find the additional bonus of the great lifestyle Gisborne has to offer.

We offer a financial incentive for new graduate midwives for year 1 & 2 plus relocation support is available and a comprehensive orientation package will be tailored to your needs and support throughout your first year from our great team.
