Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

The secret to our success is our people. While we are ordinary people, we are not all the same. We welcome diversity, in all its forms, in fact we consider it a strength. Join us and work at the heart of national security to protect New Zealand and New Zealanders.

Do you enjoy collaborative working and finding pathways to achieve successful outcomes? Do you lead by example and have a hands-on approach to team success?

The role:

The NZSIS Operational Solutions Unit is seeking an Operational Capability Officer (OCO) to join a team that may be small, but make huge differences in the work they do. Our OCOs are responsible for the coordination and development of operational capability within the NZSIS and this work has significant impact on our ability to achieve operational objectives. Many of the responsibilities of this position, and the way it functions, are similar to that of a project manager which will see you working on multiple varied work streams centred on bettering our front-line operations.

Success in this role would see you delivering operational capability that gives staff better intelligence from existing and new accesses, or even from targets that were previously too hard.

What are we looking for from you?

As an OCO we need you to act as problem solvers for the problems that others can't solve. You will be motivated to step up when there's a challenge and be able to ask the "why" and the "how". You will also:

  • Drive innovation and be able to multi-task and plan
  • Build a strong level of trust with established teams and become a respected knowledge source and problem solver
  • Enjoy juggling multiple projects and have pride in delivering solutions that directly enable our operational staff
  • Have a high level of flexibility, adaptability and resilience

Although not essential, if your background includes experience in an intelligence context, operational /project management or planning, exposure to intelligence collection, relationship management and problem solving, we would strongly encourage you to apply.

The team is split between Auckland and Wellington so there is the option for the preferred candidate to be based in either of these two locations. Don't worry; location won't act as a barrier to success as this team prides themselves on communication, collaboration and celebrating even the small wins. You will likely be required to travel between our Auckland and Welington locations several times a year.

What can we offer you?

  • The opportunity to work with diverse, talented, and committed people in an inclusive community.
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Benefits include access to an on-site gym (Wellington only), subsidised vision care, free Southern Cross Healthcare and EAP support.

What you need to know:

We offer comprehensive benefits, flexibility and work-life balance. If you have questions about working with us, we've busted the most common myths - check out our myth busting booklet https://beyondordinary.nzic.govt.nz/mythbusting
