Service:   Community, Allied Health and Older Adults

Contract:  Permanent, Part Time (0.5 FTE / 20 hours per week)

Salary:  As per AHST MECA, Step 3 - 8

We are looking for a podiatrist with an interest in the management of the High risk foot to join our expanding team, providing a high level of care for the people with active foot wounds in the Capital Coast region. 

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The High risk foot service is a small team of podiatrists that is expanding to meet the increasing demand of our skill set in the area. Our service is funded to see active foot wounds. We are looking for an individual that has a passion to implement and extend their knowledge and experience in managing high risk foot wounds. We are looking for a team player with enthusiasm and ideas to grow our service and provide the best evidence based practice for the people of our region. 

The service runs clinics at Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital and Kapiti Health Centre. We work closely alongside the vascular service, orthopedics service, Diabetes and and Endocrine service, wound specialist nurses, District nursing and external providers of Orthotics and additionally our colleagues in the Community diabetes podiatry services at the PHOs. 

We are a key member of the Diabetic foot Multi-disciplinary team clinic. The MDT team involves vascular surgeons and nurses, Diabetes specialists, wound care nurse specialist, infection disease consultants and our external orthotics provider. 

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team

The podiatry teams from what was previously known as Capital Coast DHB and Hutt Valley DHB are in the process of amalgamating and shortly we will become a regional service that provides specialized podiatric care to the High risk foot caseload in the wider Wellington and Hutt Valley Region. 

Podiatry currently sits within the Outpatient Hand therapy, Physiotherapy and Podiatry team within ORA (Older Adults, Rehabilitation & Allied Health) Services. Our team aims to deliver excellence as part of a team of highly skilled, highly motivated and supportive outpatient clinicians. We offer  opportunities for professonal development, supervision and mentoring, and being part of research opportunities. 

Moū - About you

Candidate requirements:

  • Podiatry Board of NZ  registered  with current annual practicing certificate
  • Eligible to work in New Zealand
  • Experience in the  High Risk Foot setting - (desirable) - New grads and podiatrists without experience in high risk foot setting are encouraged to apply-  training, support and mentoring will be provided
  • Membership  of Wounds society of NZ and New Zealand Society of the Study of Diabetes (NZSSD) - (desirable) 
  • Strong and clear  communication skills
  • Active team player
  • Motivation  to be part of audits, research projects and working to end of scope through up to date evidence-based best practice
