Regulatory Services Group at Te Tari Taiwhenua (Department of Internal Affairs) aims to be at the forefront of regulatory excellence so that iwi, hapū and communities across New Zealand are safe, resilient, and thriving. What does that look like? It means our gambling team focuses on keeping the gambling system safe and well-managed and reducing gambling-related harms.

We are looking for an experienced Principal Advisor who can lead strategic advice about gambling technology and the review and development of technical standards for the gambling system. The role provides both strategic and technical thought leadership across the gambling regulatory system.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • excellent knowledge of what good regulatory practice looks like
  • well-developed experience picking up a policy project and running with it, with a track-record of delivery
  • the ability to excel independently, you'll be part of a great team but you'll be expected to take leadership over the understanding of gambling technology and what's needed for its regulation

An understanding of technology deployed in gambling, and what is needed to regulate technology would be very helpful.

You'll be joining a team excited about developing deep understanding of the context of gambling in Aotearoa and building on an effective regulatory system. Our team has a diverse range of skills and focuses on delivering sound operational policy and technology advice to advance our regulatory strategy.

We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. We recognise a diverse workforce contributes to better results for Aotearoa. We are committed to creating a workplace where all employees have equal access.
