Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The Architecture Centre of Expertise (CoE) has a future-focus to Standardise, Simplify and Modernise while incrementally delivering speed-to-value in the now. Our people collaborate across the Strategy-to-Operate Lifecycle to deliver architectures for all NZTA Waka Kotahi strategies, emergent business needs and projects/initiatives. This role takes an enterprise, future focused approach, while enabling delivery excellence in the Transport Domain.

As part of our Architecture Centre of Expertise, the Principal Enterprise Architect role is responsible for the development and maintenance of NZTA's NextGen Architecture, its associated blueprints and action plans. Taking a collaborate approach the person engages the across the Digital delivery business functions to ensure adequate architecture governance is applied and rapidly translated into action.

This position performs a business-critical function and has business and technical acumen to define and enable the enterprise-level architectures required for the current-to-future state of Transport. The position also aids the management of digital risks, cost, and complexity of our current architecture landscape as part of the Digital Domain Leadership team.

The role supports the Head of Architecture (Chief Architect) in providing strategic technology consultancy and strategic leadership, collaboratively across the enterprise, with senior business leaders including ELT Executive and General Managerial members, our partners, suppliers, and alliances.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Significant experience in the collaborative development of Enterprise Architecture strategies, blueprints, and actionable plans.
  • Significant experience working in complex business, delivery, and architecture environments.
  • A track record of unpacking architecture landscapes and optimising towards a future state.
  • Extensive experience and ability to synthesise complex and / or technical and business information to tell our story and sell the story of digital change resulting in delivered transformation.
  • Proven experience in leading, influencing and building credibility across a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise the creation of organisational value in the now while actively considering the future and helping the organisation to balance the tension between the two when making decisions.
  • Proven experience in contributing to the maturity of Enterprise Architecture practices.
  • Proven experience in the integration of solutions into an existing environment that includes '-as-a-Service', COTS, and custom developed services while planned simplification is delivered.
  • An understanding of the digital twin, digital engineering, IoT/Networking and Cloud technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience in proactive technology risk management.
  • Experience in working in enterprise-wide agile environments and operating models.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
