Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

The Equity business unit was established to undertake robust research on interventions and translate findings through to implementation to support addressing the Life Expectancy gap between Māori and non-Māori, between Pacific and non-Pacific, and other key prioritised interventions. The team also support the development of equity frameworks, tools and capability for Health NZ.

The primary purpose of this role is to manage and support key projects across the Equity Development Team, Scientific and Technical team and the Māori Health Pipeline. In this role, you will work with leadership to ensure projects are delivered within time, budget and to the agreed quality standards, and will identify opportunities for improvement across the Equity business unit.

On a day-to-day basis you will be involved in project management across our programmes. This will include; communicating, reporting and escalating to our oversight functions, supporting budget setting and management, driving procurement processes, research programme/project support, planning for national scaling including training and workforce development, clinical pathway development, and business case development.

This role will see you networking and liasing with stakeholders across the sector, with an aim to build and maintain strong relationships with other key health sector organisations, and developing connections with functions and services across Te Whatu Ora.

There are 2 roles available, providing support to multiple areas across the Equity Development, Scientific and Technical and the Māori Health Pipeline functions. These roles are fixed term until June 2025.

Mōu | About you

You will be an experienced, innovative and adaptable Project Manager, with experience working within health equity. .

You will demonstrate effective leadership skills and have the ability to manage and support multiple projects successfully at one time. You will easily be able to identify process improvement opportunities, and knowledge gaps within teams, with the ability to support team members through coaching, training and mentoring to ensure that they are working to the best of their abilities.

You will be required to work with a range of stakeholders across the organisation, in national, regional and local levels in this role so you will need to be an excellent communicator with a strong commitment to working collaboratively, and be able to build strong relationships across the organisation.

  • Previous experience of successful project management in a similar environment/background
  • Proven ability to scope and establish work programmes working across other directorates and organisations.
  • Proven experience delivering timely outputs to meet expectations.
  • Experience in delivering benefits including improved outcomes for our consumers, communities and at an organisational level.
  • Strong financial literacy, report writing and oral skills.
  • Experience in working with senior teams or complex work programmes.
