The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

We have the opportunity available for a Public Health Physician Screening to join our experienced, supportive team. This is a part-time, fixed term role until November 2024.

The Public Health Physician is responsible for providing public health medicine leadership and technical support for the on-going quality, monitoring and evaluation of the screening programmes. This role will see you provide public health medicine, biostatistical and epidemiological advice and leadership across the screening programmes.

You will collaborate with the analytical team to report on, monitor and evaluate the screening programmes. Lead discussions with and seek advice from advisory groups on the quality and performance of the screening programmes.

Mōu | About you

You have demonstrated experience and expertise in monitoring and evaluation of population health programmes. You keep abreast of research, evidence, technology and other medical advances relevant to screening programmes and are comfortable building collaborative and positive relationships. You're comfortable representing the clinical team and provide a public health lens in the ongoing development and refinement of information technology systems and tools. Lead projects and other work to ensure all work is well planned and managed by taking strategic and tactical approaches to achieve results.

You will have:

  • An annual practising certificate with the New Zealand Medical Council
  • Vocational registration with either the New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine or the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine
  • The ability to work collaboratively and respectfully within a team and with a range of diverse stakeholders
  • Able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with people at all levels within the public and private sectors, related industry and community interest groups and the wider national and international communities
  • The ability to maximise the quality and contributions of individuals and teams to achieve the organisation's vision, purpose and goals

  • A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions. This includes an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in this role
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting or continuing your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
