Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
The Perioperative Department manages the patient - s surgical journey before and after theatre. Our care is patient centred and multidisciplinary. We work closely with Health Care Assistants, Theatre Nurses, Anaesthetists, Anaesthetic Technicians and Surgeons.
As a member of our Perioperative Department Team you will be primarily rostered to work in the SAU/DSU or the PACU. Although we love our work areas, some of us interchange between areas which gives a global perspective of our Department and variety in the workplace. As part of your orientation you will be exposed to all areas of the Perioperative Department so experience in these areas are beneficial.
Orientation and extensive education will be given to successful candidates. Expect to work with the full spectrum of age groups.
The PACU is staffed from Monday to Sunday 0800-2200 with an on call component. SSR is staffed from Monday 0700 - Saturday 1530. SAU is staffed Monday - Friday 0700-1530. DSU is staffed from 0700 - 2030.

The Perioperative Department consists of Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), Second Stage Recovery (SSR), Surgical Admissions Unit (SAU), Day Surgical Unit (DSU) and Acute Pain Management Service (APMS).
The Perioperative Department consists of nurses who hold patient care in the highest regards. Our team is experienced, dynamic and adaptable. Our areas are very busy and we like it like that. We have a great team dynamic, we up hold the values of Te Whatu Ora and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Humour, compassion and self-care are important in our workplace.
Moū - About you
Our requirements for this role are specific - experience in PACU, SAU, DSU or SSR. Your experience in these areas will enable you to practice independently after orientation. You will already have great time management skills, strong interpersonal communication skills, can be assertive, can work under pressure while maintaining high standards of service, happy to work autonomously and can easily adapt to work where required. It is vital you prioritise excellent customer service in your daily practice.
