  • Kaitaia, Far North - New Zealand
  • Rural Hospital Medicine
  • Northland District Health Board

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Rural Health Medical Specialist to work in the Far North at Kaitaia Hospital. Our team is fun loving and hardworking, striving for quality health care that is second to none.

Northland DHB is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Māori as Tāngata Whenua as the highest priority. Our hospital serves a high Māori, high needs population and we are committed to considering the principles of Te Tiriti in all the work that we do.

Kaitaia Hospital is a general regional hospital serving a widely scattered population of approximately 24,000. The 28 bed hospital has a general; paediatric and maternity ward with all the supporting services, and is supported by Whangarei Hospital in providing secondary care services. The range of medical care managed at Kaitaia Hospital is complex and interesting, providing care for the growing population as well as the huge influx of tourists in the summer period.

We are looking for a dynamic team player to provide medical care to patients presenting to the emergency department as well as outpatients and inpatients. Ideally you will bring experience working in rural medicine or a commitment to learn and grow in this niche specialty. You will be a pro-active clinician with the ability to communicate effectively and build great working relationships with our smaller close-knit hospital.

Kaitaia is the northern-most town in New Zealand, before you get to the iconic Cape Reinga. The small town is rich in culture and heritage and boasts some of the most scenic and exciting coastal areas of New Zealand. We have created a warm; comfortable and manageable environment and would love to hear from those interested in sharing this with us.

To be considered you must have or be eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in a Rural Hospital Medicine scope of practice. We would consider Medical Officers if they had a clear path towards vocational registration in rural hospital medicine. For more information about the MCNZ registration process, please visit www.mcnz.org.nz

We offer a competitive relocation package to support you and your family to make the move to Kaitaia. If you are currently overseas/ not yet registered, we can assist you with the application process to obtain MCNZ registration. Northland District Health Board is also an Approved Accredited Employer by New Zealand Immigration.
