Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Our Security Team are moving toward future focused technology. A lot of our technology is moving into the cloud platform and our goal is to have software defined solutions and become cloud centric.
We have a large programme of work to deliver and want to enable our team to meet our strategic goals. We are looking to enhance our cyber security footprint and the security standpoint for the Agency as well as support innovative transport solutions in partnership with our Waka Kotahi teams.
The role provides defense against cybersecurity incidents and identifies, analyses, communicates, and contains or escalates incidents as they occur.
Some of the key things involve working with security information and event management (SIEM) to create/manage the detection content and actively monitor for alerts. You will work with security specialists to correlate activity across assets (endpoint, network apps) and environments (on-premises, cloud) to identify patters of anomalous use. You will conduct log-based and endpoint-based threat detection to detect and protect against threats coming from multiple sources You will have experience in monitoring and intrusion detection analysis using various SIEM and defence tools, such as intrusion detection/prevention systems, firewalls, and host-based security systems.
We want a customer focused Security Analyst to join our high performing collaborative team. You will be comfortable working independently and enjoy seeing things through to completion. Working across a range of projects, you'll communicate with users to understand activities that have occurred and to reinforce secure use of technology, keeping up to date emerging threats and malicious actors' tactics, techniques, and procedures.
You may be required to be on call outside your standard hours of work, where this is considered necessary by Waka Kotahi for operational and customer needs
This is a unique role in New Zealand where you will be providing security services with a focus on future transport solutions. We will provide training opportunities and an environment where you will grow!

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- 2 years of experience as a security operations analyst, penetration tester or incident responder.
- Strong decision-making capabilities, with a proven ability to weigh the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and identify the most appropriate one
- An ability to effectively influence others to modify their opinions, plans or behaviors
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills Qualifications:
- Tertiary or industry qualifications in a relevant discipline desirable
- Certification and training in security technologies, devices, and appliances
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
