We are recruiting for a well-known client, based in the Hutt Valley that is looking for a Building Officer to join their ever-growing team to undertake building inspections in the region.
About the role:
Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Building Code and Building Act. Ensure that building work – either new or modifications to existing structures – meet the required standards under the Building Act through processing Building Consents and inspecting site work.
The role is responsible for mentoring and supporting others within the team.

Other key responsibilities:
- Liaise with professionals, groups, members of the public and internal customers on building issues and related topics and ensure effective working relationships are maintained.
- Participate in emergency and civil defence planning, training and operations
- Contribute to the development of new policies and guidance to support best practice and strategic priorities
- Contribute to project management methodologies when leading, scoping, planning, monitoring, managing or evaluating research or projects
About you:

- Qualification in building, a trade (including plumbing & drainage, building), architecture, building science or related area (Commercial & Residential Experience)
- Regulation 18, Commercial (1) and Residential (3) Competence
- 3+ years’ experience in the building industry
- Understand and Interpret building plans.
- Knowledge of Building Act 2004, New Zealand Building Code, other related environmental legislation, and standards
- Experience in both building consenting & inspections would be a bonus.
- Valid NZ driver’s licence
