Senior Operational Policy Analyst - Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism - Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch

Keeping New Zealand in business for good

Working at the Department of Internal Affairs, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of New Zealanders.

  • Join a diverse, multi-disciplinary group that supervises New Zealand businesses in the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism system.
  • Use your operational policy knowledge and experience to become a dedicated AML/CFT policy expert and help protect New Zealand businesses from being used by criminals.
  • Apply your analytical and innovative skills and ability to interpret legislation to a complex risk-based regulatory environment.

We are the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Group within one of New Zealand Government's larger regulatory bodies. We promote effective regulatory outcomes through education, monitoring and enforcement.

As a risk-based, responsive modern regulator, we provide effective regulatory services in an increasingly complex, borderless digital world.

We are looking for a Senior Operational Policy Analyst to deliver high quality advice and products to assist us in our role as a regulatory system leader.

The Senior Operational Policy Analyst is responsible for translating policy and legislation into clear and fit-for-purpose external and operational guidance, undertaking risk assessments, and contributing to cross-agency work in the AML system.

Understanding, monitoring and analysing the regulatory system and its trends, business processes and domestic and international contexts is critical to this position. The ideal candidate will also be able to mentor and provide support to others in the team.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A policy or operational policy track record in a regulatory environment, or similar skills from an AML/CFT or financial regulation background
  • The ability to interpret legislation, understand complex issues and identify risks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues to a variety of audiences.
  • Attention to detail and demonstrated drive, enthusiasm, self-motivation and resilience.
  • The ability to lead and manage projects, and mentor and coach others

If you want a job where the work you do matters to New Zealand, we would like to hear from you.

We are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion. We recognise a diverse workforce contributes to better business outcomes. We are committed to creating a workplace where all employees have equal access.
