Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We're looking for a Senior Procurement Manager who will lead project teams through large or high-risk procurement and contract negotiation processes. You will also work closely with the Principal Procurement Manager in assisting with more complex procurement and processes.

Bringing your strong communication and engagement skills, you'll provide commercial support and specialist advice on procurement to both internal and external customers, at all levels. You will assess procurement strategies, make complex decisions based on clear analysis and have a good understanding of risk management techniques.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience in a similar role at a senior level is desirable.
  • Relevant post-graduate experience (minimum 5 years), ideally in the construction industry.
  • A strong working knowledge of procurement processes and contractual requirements, and a good understanding of risk management techniques.
  • Strong working knowledge, including industry experience, of the principles of tendering with the private sector, with an in-depth knowledge of related commercial practices.
  • A sound understanding of a range of relevant legislation that sets the context for procurement related policy.
  • Experience in construction consultancy, construction contractor or local body environment is desirable.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering or other relevant technical discipline is highly desirable.
  • MCIPS and/or relevant experience in a commercial or procurement role in the construction category.
  • The ability to gain a professional registration or become a member of a NZ professional institution.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

The Commercial and Corporate group provides key specialist corporate functions that are core to enabling Waka Kotahi to run efficiently and to achieve organisational excellence internally and for the land transport system.

The Waka Kotahi procurement function is led by the Enterprise Procurement team and is enabled and supported by a range of other teams including Investment and Finance, Legal, Risk and Assurance, and Health, Safety and Environment.

Procurement activity is fundamental to the operation of the land transport system, delivery of the National Land Transport Programme and the operational enablement of Waka Kotahi.
