About the role

The IS Senior Systems Engineer assumes technical leadership and design responsibilities across all aspects of Health NZ’s computer equipment and technologies. This role involves enhancing and expanding infrastructure capabilities, which includes solution identification, detailed design, and implementation of infrastructure solutions for Health NZ.


Key areas of focus include, but are not limited to client devices, Citrix, VMWare, Cloud services, Microsoft 365, DNS, Active Directory, storage solutions, and backup technologies. The role entails developing and maintaining a vision for a specific technology, typically in the form of reference architecture, and subsequently implementing the technology to align with that vision.


Ngā Pūkenga me ngā Wheako – Skills & Experience

  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer or another recognised vendor qualification relevant to IS infrastructure.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with enterprise environments.

  • Strong proficiency across core Microsoft technologies, including Azure, Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS.

  • Experience with Microsoft Server operating systems such as 2012R2, 2016, and 2019, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Exchange 2016 and Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Experience in managing Microsoft server infrastructure in a complex information technology environment

  • Previous experience with Microsoft System Centre for deployment of client and server environments, patch management for client, server and network devices


Additionally you might have

  • Previous experience working within a Health or Hospital environment

  • A relevant tertiary qualification such as Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

  • Proven experience in CITRIX, server, Azure and network management

  • Good working experience with ESX and Hypervisor platforms, as well as Storage technologies.

  • Working knowledge in one or more key Information Technology methodologies: TOGAF, MOF.

  • Previous involvement in large infrastructure projects, including replacement or upgrade of key data centre components.

  • Knowledge of MS-Defender suit
