Solutions Architect – Permanent

We are looking for a Solutions Architect to join our innovative Information Services Team. You will play a key role in enabling the successful delivery of NZQA's business solutions through an ICT lens.

Whakatairangatia ngā kete o te mātauranga ki te ao mārama! E te tai whakarunga, e te tai whakararo - nau piki mai, nau kake mai ki te Mana Tohu Mātauranga o Aotearoa.

May the baskets of knowledge (education) be brought into the world of light. We welcome one and all to join us at the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

About the role

It is a great time to be joining the NZQA team as we embark on a journey to replace core technology components that support everything that we do. The programme we are establishing will replace our legacy monolith with modern cloud SaaS and microservices based components, changing how we deliver key services such as NCEA and the Record of Achievement.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing high quality solution architectures, ensuring that they meet business requirements, and are well aligned with NZQA strategy, architecture and standards.
  • Contributing to the development and quality assurance of information architecture and data models, as well as target state architectures, standards and roadmaps.
  • Ensuring solutions reflect good security practice and work to raise security awareness.
  • Providing technical leadership and supporting successful project delivery.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of clients and partners.

Skills and experience

You will have in depth experience developing solution architectures in an enterprise environment.  Ideally, you will have recent experience with software architecture for enterprise AWS, Azure and Java web applications, a good understanding of micro-services and API gateway architectures, standards-based identity and access management, and will have contributed to enterprise architecture activities.

Your designs will be holistic by nature, and incorporate your knowledge of cloud frameworks and architecture, including Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) constructs.

You will provide well-informed advice for ongoing ICT cloud adoption. You will regularly evaluate cloud services, software and hardware that are part of the ICT ecosystem.

Experience with architecting solutions that run on or integrate with public cloud services such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft's Azure is highly desirable.

You will have good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and you will be comfortable in presenting, negotiating, and facilitating technical solutions coupled with good client relationship management skills. Experience in vendor/partner management is essential.

If you have the experience and expertise outlined above, then this could be the role for you.
