Solutions Architect (6-month Fixed Term or Secondment)

About the role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi 

The Electoral Commission is looking for a Solutions Architect to join the Information Technology team for a six month fixed term engagement. You will be part of a great, supportive and fun team that is dedicated to ensuring the Commission's IT solutions run smoothly and securely so that it can deliver excellent services to the public. 

The position will report to the Chief Information Officer and will be responsible for providing technical leadership, guidance and direction on the design, development, desktop operating environment, security, infrastructure, testing and implementation functions of the Commission's information management systems.

You will enjoy working on a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment, will have a drive to deliver and an ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse range of people across all levels. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences as well as broad architecture skills in several domains including depth in Azure Cloud and security domain.

What you'll be doing | He aha tāu e mahi ana

  • Aligning IT solutions with the Commission's business strategic direction and work programme
  • Contributing to various application development and IT infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered according to architectural principles & standards
  • Supporting project-related procurement, including the development and evaluation of business cases & market tenders, contributing to negotiations and assessment of service quality.
  • Contributing to project-related testing of IT infrastructure & applications
  • The Design and implementation of information system security controls in conjunction with third party vendors
  • Providing high level technical design and solution architecture documentation
  • Developing roadmaps for the Commissions' technology products & services and assessing the current state and performance of its assets.

What you'll need to succeed | Ko ngā mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitū

  • 5-10 years of progressive experience with a wide variety of infrastructure and applications solutions and systems.
  • Understanding of relevant industry and public sector IT strategies and standards.
  • Experience in undertaking solution option analysis, investment decision making, and asset quality assessment.
  • Skills in developing architectural standards, policies, guidance, and procedures including cybersecurity and business continuity.
  • Ability to influence action and behavioural change with expert negotiating skills. 
  • Familiarity with engaging in architectural governance and decision-making functions.
  • Exposure to certification & accreditation processes and documentation.
  • Understanding of best practice IT procurement and contract management processes within the Public Sector, including preparation and evaluation of Requests for Information and Requests for Proposals. 
  • A relevant tertiary or industry qualification
