Sous Chef - remote South Island location

Picture this - you wake up in the morning to the sound of native birds and chirping cicadas, fresh crisp air without even a hint of city noise, surrounded by the most rugged and dramatic scenery imaginable. Sounds incredible and almost unbelievable right? Well it is real and we are working with our client to find a Senior Sous Chef for a luxurious lodge in the Ahuriri Valley. Housing up to 16 guests in either spacious master/lodge suites or unique freestanding pods the guests are able to experience first class accommodation with unforgettable cuisine with a daily changing menu of top quality locally sourced and foraged ingredients.

  • Accommodation available for $100 p/w including utilities
  • Paying up to $35 per hour
  • Stunning 5-star luxury lodge

The opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Sous Chef with experience in either fine dining or luxury lodges. The Head Chef and the remote Executive Chef design the menu daily based on what locally sourced and seasonal products are available on hand. You will be given the opportunity to contribute and showcase your ideas, working with the finest ingredients in a world-class kitchen. Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Management of the kitchen in the Head Chefs absence, including working sole charge at times
  • Assist in the training of kitchen staff & assess performance
  • Help to oversee the growth & management of produce in the lodges garden
  • Help to monitor pricing, portion control and budgetary concerns
  • Support fellow BOH staff as well as FOH staff in all areas of operations

Who are you?
You will be an experienced chef with a passion for planing, cooking and plating meals to the highest possible standards. You'll have an excellent understanding of contemporary European cuisine including pastry and baking skills. Nothing is off-limits, so we are looking for someone who isn't afraid to think outside the box by using innovation and artistry to create memorable dining experiences. You will need to tick the following boxes to be considered for this opportunity:

  • Either a NZ Resident/Citizen or hold a valid work visa at the time of application
  • Happy to relocate to a remote, yet breathtaking, South Island location
  • Be a team player who would be able to work and live with their colleagues
  • Be available for full time employment from early July 2024
