The role:
The Storm/wastewater labourer will be a key part of the maintenance team who will be responsible for assisting with the upkeep of our storm/wastewater systems in Palmerston North. You must be able to deliver work to the correct standard as per drawings and specifications within a timely manner while following safe operating procedures. This role is currently a temporary position with an immediate start until late January however there is opportunity for long term work for the right person.
Duties:
- Day to day operations and maintenance of the Wastewater or Stormwater networks and carrying out repairs to a high quality.
- Safe handling and operation of all plant machinery and tools.
- Undertake pipe laying, jointing, fittings installation and reinstatement as well as chamber installation works by hand or with the use of machinery.
- Monitor performance of existing systems and looking for improvements/maintenance needed.
- Assist with emergency situations relating to any water networks and roading so the city can function prior to the event.
- Some work outside of normal hours will be required occasionally for after-hours call outs.
Days and Hours:
Monday – Friday 7am 4:30pm however the end time may vary depending on the workload.
Weekend/after hours on-call work will be required as requested.
Requirements:
- Experience with civil works plant and equipment.
- A completed or willingness to obtain a qualification in Temporary Traffic Management (TC or STMS Level 1).
- Class 4/5 drivers’ licence and WTR endorsements preferred but not a must have. Digger experience is an advantage.
- Certificate in Pipeline Construction and maintenance is beneficial.
- Complete a pre-employment drug test.
- MOJ background check.
