Role Type: Permanent, full-time

Location: Wellington

Salary Band: $117,035 to $156,888 depending on skills and experience

 

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be leading a team of 4 responsible for managing the monthly and annual statutory financial reporting obligations, the integrity of the asset register, external audit, tax compliance, external Budget and Estimates process, and maintaining the integrity and the internal control environment including systems, policies and processes on behalf of the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI).

This role is central in leading the development of a high performing team focused on forward thinking and best practices to statutory financial reporting obligations appropriate for a large public sector organisation.  

 

Mōu - About You

You will have strong technical knowledge in financial accounting, a strategic mindset, an ability to articulate ideas, influence and build a strong relationship with a range of stakeholders.

You will be someone who has had great success in leading and managing a team of accountants and have the energy to drive the performance of the team to meet its objectives to deliver quality service.

To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

  • Relevant qualifications and member of CAANZ or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of financial accounting and related practices for a large organisation
  • Experience with external reporting including working knowledge of the Treasury's CFIS (Crown Financial Information System) system.
  • Experience with government Budget and Estimates processes
  • Experience in staff management, supervision and coaching
  • Experience in successfully embedding continuous improvement culture
  • Ability to plan effectively and deliver to agreed deadlines
  • Experience in managing relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Knowledge and experience of financial management and reporting in the NZ public sector (desirable) 

 

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team

The team you will be managing is responsible for all of the Ministry's external reporting requirements, including monthly accounts to the Treasury (via CFIS Net), financial information for the annual report, management of the balance sheet, cash forecasting, fixed assets.  The team is also responsible for the baseline updates, production of the Budget and Estimates documents.
