Salary VTS Range 1: $121,491 to $151,864 depending on skills and experience

 

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

You will lead and manage people (veterinarians) at an area level and you will place a strong emphasis on developing staff capability to ensure delivery of high quality and nationally consistent technical and operational services within the Establishment Team. The Tauranga Establishment team supports seven meat establishment processing facilities from Northland to the Bay of Plenty.

A high level of versatility and a strong understanding of what it takes to enable Establishment operators to take control of their compliance to ensure their success is vital.   Your positive engagement and that of your team will be essential in achieving success.   Also important will be your ability to work collaboratively with other parts of VS to deliver appropriate training, and support of staff to ensure consistently high levels of services are provided. 

You will:

  • Support the National Manager Service Delivery North in the delivery of the national strategy and implementation programme in alignment with the Verification Services Leadership Team business development plans.
  • Work with other relevant parts of VS to ensure adequate ongoing training, and support of staff to ensure delivery of a consistent high level of service.
  • Provide leadership and management to all staff by ensuring robust processes for communication, engagement, learning and development and performance management are implemented.
  • Manage all resources and outcomes through the effective implementation of organisational processes and procedures (health and safety, recruitment, financial, planning, monitoring, and measuring, reporting)

 

Mōu - About You

This role would suit someone with a Veterinary or science background who has solid experience managing people and finances.

To be successful for this role, you will:

  • Have a registerable veterinary or science based tertiary qualification
  • Have experience developing and coaching staff
  • Be able to make business decisions that have a financial impact and an understanding of cost recovery
  • Experience managing relationships and consulting with an assortment of external stakeholders

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team  

The Tauranga Establishment team has seven processing plants which each have a Team Leader Veterinarian to manage the VS team there and the relationship with the operator's compliance team and management team. The whole team of at least 11 verifiers which includes establishment and relievers who fill in across all sites as needed. The sites are Silver Fern Farms (SFF) Te Aroha, SFF Waitoa, SFF Rotorua, SFF Dargaville, Duncan Processors Rotorua, AFFCO Rangiuru and Morewa.

The team meets regularly online and has at least two in person team meetings per year to provide peer support and professional development. The work of this team directly contributes to MPIs strategic objectives of Prosperity, Visible Leadership and Protection. The export red meat sector generates $13b of revenue annually and MPI's Veterinarian Verifiers are interacting with operators daily and are the visible face of MPI in their area. Animal Welfare is a key aspect of the role which links to the Protection strategic goal. This team also supports restricted organism response plans locally and engages with the rural community through a mandated farm verification program.
